Good questions
How does Nameidea work?
How do I choose a last name?
Start with a spelling length or initial, try the surname beside your first name, then read it in a character scene or family note. Save a few candidates and compare them in context.
Are these newly generated names?
No. The surnames come from the 2010 U.S. Census surname data. The sampler chooses from our curated list; the scenes are fictional previews. Recorded use does not establish ancestry, meaning or availability.
Where are my saved names stored?
Saved surnames stay in localStorage in this browser, with a limit of 100. They do not sync across devices. First-name drafts stay in page memory and are not sent to Nameidea. If storage is unavailable, favorites last only for this visit.
